Concept of Design
“Project NUI”
So this will be your project to complete for use in the second part of this series, and until the series is finished:
- Create an original design and concept for your NUI. Work out as much of the detail as you can on paper first. Make detailed notes about the kinds of functions you'd like your NUI to have. That way, your concept as a whole will become crystal clear in your mind before you ever work on it in Photoshop.
- Try to utilize as many primary shapes as you can at first, to give your imagination enough ideas to play with. For those that don't know, primary shapes are things like; squares, circles, triangles, etc.
- Use whatever visualization techniques that you find work for you. If you don't have any yet, try the ones i outlined on the previous page.
- Don't try to force your ideas to come. Let them happen naturally through experimenting and trial and error. And don't settle on your first idea either. Create more than one, and after a few days of not looking at them, go back a study each design again. You'll find that some just don't look & feel the same as when you first created them. And others will look even better than you first thought. After you've been brainstorming for a while, give your mind a break from it, and come back to it later with a fresh set of 'creative eyes'.
Alright then... let's get to it people!
Once you think you have a completed idea on paper, just set it aside until we meet again for part 2 of the series.
