2D & 3D
Overview:
Hi everyone, welcome back to the series.
I'd like to say now that this section is by FAR the largest part of 'Creating the NUI'. That's partly why it took so long to write. Please be forewarned now that these pages are some of the longest i've written to date. So don't expect to just breeze through them. Be prepared to digest a lot of information here. :?)
Let's get right down to it shall we...
In brief, this section will be dealing with the creation of both 2D & 3D interfaces. Each type of interface has it's own good points, but to be honest, 2D designs don't really have any 'bad' points per say, except where design and functionality are concerned. Where as 3D designs can sometimes be tougher to deal with, depending on the colour palette used, level(s) of optimization when saving images, and the complexity of a specific design.
We'll be looking at a couple of different ways to create and work with both types of designs. We'll also be looking at some ways to go about creating the individual components of an interface, using the Lighting Filter and a few other simple techniques.
Overall, we'll be covering these categories:
- Colour Palettes - which one to use & when.
- Complex vs Simple designs - fitting an interface to the page instead of the page to the interface.
- Frankensteins Interface - creating the parts that make up the whole.
So with that said, let's turn the page and get started...
