Concept of Design
"The Drawing Board"

Primer #1:
Before you begin any project concerning graphic design whether it pertains to a web site or a page layout, it's very important to assess the goals and objectives you wish to achieve.
For instance, in the case of a web site navigational Interface, what kind of shapes and patterns can you use that will meld seamlessly into the design and layout of the pages themselves?
  • is it a straight forward business site with data forms & product catalogues?
in which case straight lines, rectangles and ergonomic layouts might work best. With the least amount of clutter in the layout of the information, and very few, if any, what i call "deco-graphics". (images created specifically to spiff-up the graphical look of a web page)
  • is it a personal Home page of your own hobbies & interests?
in which case you would have a very open "palette" from which to work on your design and layout, and don't have to be locked into any particular look or feel. So you could choose shapes such as circles, squares, rectangles, triangles, octagons or whatever you think best suites your inspirations.
  • is it a technology-based site with high-tech information & a digital feel?
in a design scheme such as this, you could also be quite adventuresome. Implementing shapes like wire-frame illustrations, multiple grid patterns, squares within squares, circles within circles and basically anything that gives the impression of complexity and unity at the same time.
