XtrEMe Textures
"Metallic Tiles"

Supplies for this Session:
You will need Photoshop 4/5 for this Session folks. If you are still using PS 3 you will need to get the "Gallery Effects" plugin series from either Adobe or a shareware site if it's avaliable. The filter I use here for this effect is called "patchwork", and is contained in the series.

Please Note:
I am not at liberty to give you this filter since it is a part of an authentic Adobe product. Please do not ask me to send it to you if you do not have it.

Preface

This month's Session is going to deal with creating a texture from scratch. It will also be a TWO PART Session. The second half will be completed in Session 8b.

Overview:
There are unlimited ways of using Photoshop to create various kinds of texture patterns or textures for image mapping. Especially if you're using Photoshop 4. In this Session we'll discover a few ways of doing this using the Layer palette's Difference & Exclusion blend modes.

This mode has always been a source of creative sparks for me, simply because there are so many ways of applying it to any type of graphic I may be working on. It can yield so many different types of effects depending on how you choose to apply it, and to what strength it is set to (opacity setting).
Out of the 17 types of Blend Modes that Photoshop 4 has, this is by far the one I get the most use out of. And yet... it's nature is one of harshness, and not of the usual kind you would think of using in an everyday kind of way... or is it?

Also:  if you feel the need to print this material out you have my express permission to do so. But please do not redistribute it ok.
Thanks Much.

With all that said, I hope you enjoy this session!

Dare to be different...
            somebody's got to do it!
