Preface

"The Dome" is not an exercise in how to create effects for a web page with a black background.

Rather it is a variety of exercises combined using the creation of a glass dome as a point of reference.
All of these techniques could just as easily be applied to grahics for a web site, or any work of art, with any colour of background or background texture.

If you are unsure of how to perform an operation please see the shortcut key menu.

ALSO:  if you feel the need to print this material out you have my permission. But please do not redistribute it.
Thanx Much.

With all that said, I hope you enjoy this session.

Textured Highlights:
Before we really begin let me ask that you take a look at the options palette for your "selection" tools: the Rectangle, the Lasso & the Magic Wand.
Choose your Rectangular selection tool now and have a look at the options palette for that tool.
On the bottom of the options palette you should see the word "Feather", please make sure that the number in that box is set to zero (0).
Also set the other Selection tools to "Feather=0".

Quick Note:
The reason i'm mentioning this is that sometimes we can forget to reset these tools after using them, and it has caused quite a bit of confusion with people as to why they can't get the same effect as I do here.
If you've been having a problem with any of the other Examples on my site, you may want to try them again after you've checked this adjustment, and found that it wasn't set to zero. This could very well have produced different results than mine if you had forgotten to zero settings for these tools.
